Authentic Mexican tacos are often very different from traditional ones served at restaurants in the United States. Following is an easy Mexican taco recipe.
In many small Mexican towns and villages, the tacos are very different from the ones that most Americans are used to eating. However, Mexican-style tacos are certainly more delicious, and just as easy to make as regular old ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and cheese tacos. Tacos are Mexican food staples, and are very easy to make at home. Following is an authentic Mexican taco recipe that is easy to follow at home, and results in food enough for a family.
Authentic Mexican Taco Recipe Ingredients
1 pound meat (chicken breast, chorizo sausage, pork chop, or steak, or any combination of these meats).
2 cups fresh cilantro leaves
1 large tomato, diced
1 cup radish, sliced into thin chips
1/2 cup onion, chopped
12 corn tortillas, heated (flour tortillas may be used as well, but they are not as common in Mexico)
salsa, if desired
salt and pepper
Olive oil
Queso fresco (optional)
Cooking Instructions for an Easy Mexican Food Dish
Chop or shred the meat into small pieces. Dice the tomato, and chop the onion. Add all of these to a frying pan or skillet with a little olive oil, and saute until the meat has cooked. If using chorizo sausage, cook the meat much like you would ground beef. Constantly stir it around to cook it all of the way through, and drain the grease.
On a cookie sheet or oven pan, place twelve corn tortillas apart from each other, and bake them in the oven until they are soft and malleable (meaning that they have lost their rigidity and brittle nature).
On a cutting board, slice the radishes into thin chips. Set these aside in a bowl.
Wash some fresh cilantro, and separate the leaves. Add the cilantro leaves to the bowl with the sliced radish.
Once the tortillas are heated, and the meat has cooked, fill the corn tortillas with the sauteed meat, tomato and onion. then, place a generous amount of the cilantro and radish over the meat, tomato, and onion. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, if necessary, and serve.
If using queso fresco, sprinkle this over the tacos, and wrap them in foil, folded like hard tacos (it is important to make sure that the tortillas are soft, as they will crack if they have not been heated enough before being wrapped in foil). Then, bake them for about five minutes at 350 degrees. The cheese will have melted, and the tacos will have a nice flavor.
These tacos are very good with cilantro sauce, although any salsa is good over top of them. A little sour cream also makes a tasty addition to these tacos. Fish and shrimp may be substituted for other meat, and the resulting seafood tacos are delicious. There are many things that go well with these, and that may be substituted for certain ingredients, but corn tortillas, meat, cilantro, and radish all combine to form the foundation of some tasty, authentic Mexican tacos.
